A Conversation with Annette Paterakis on Isolation, Hope, and Healing

Due to extenuating circumstances, we weren’t able to release this episode of Equestrian Voices in the originally intended order, but we also felt this story was too important to leave on the shelf. That’s why we’re bringing it to you now as a special addendum to the podcast. Growing up in the Netherlands, Annette Paterakis rode ponies competitively and had Olympic aspirations. However, transiti...
Tik Maynard Teaches Introducing Play with Your Horse
Переглядів 862Місяць тому
Many riders and horse owners ask the same questions: How do I figure out what my horse is thinking? How do I train a horse empathetically? How do I motivate my horse to want to learn? The answers are also questions: How do you make it playful for them? How do you make training interesting and engaging? Play is not work. Play is something we choose to do. So, by definition, work can turn into pl...

Why Play Is Key for Building “Try” in Your Horse, and How to Do It - With Tik Maynard
Переглядів 7202 місяці тому
When you picture adding “play” into your horse’s training, what comes to mind? Do you imagine your horse chasing around a large ball or nosing carrots out of a container? Or maybe you see your horse trotting joyfully behind you as you run? The fact is, play can look like a lot of different things, but it doesn’t have to be any of the above. Play’s purpose is to teach your horse how to “try”-and...

Well deserved ❤❤❤

Beautiful ❤❤❤
Excellent advice! Thanks for sharing!
Wise words.
I am shocked that you dedicate an entire video to him. Have you looked into what he does to his horses? There are minute-long videos of him tormenting his horses. From blue tongues to almost suffocating them. He is a cruel rider! wtf...
lol she called herself cook in Italian cuoco lol
This girl is a weirdo. These Hollywood goofballs collect marriages like baseball cards. Bunch of freaks.
Boyd is a true horseman. A lot of top riders do not give their horse adequate turnout
She euthanized that relationship 😂
He seems to be a bit of a d!ck🤨
love the thought of the horse and doing it with a positive light for them as well as humans.....they teach us so very much!!!
Yes ....i have to rember to train my horse in the moment and not thinking about a judge marking us🤗🇦🇺✨
interesting, but i can see why he dumped her
This guy comes across as extremely unlikeable.
I’m so glad she’s finally with someone who’s kind and appreciative of her love. Also side note… that pony be pulling that dude like hurry up and Kaley was leading hers🩵🩵
Bits are cruel they shouldnt be used at all.
For what purpose?
It's in the video description. "In his latest course, Equestrian Masterclass instructor Tik Maynard will take you through The Sending Game, and easy exercise that promotes a sense of exploration and curiosity in your horse. While it may look simple, you'll be surprised at how long it might take your horse to master the concept first of going AWAY from his/her person, and also searching/exploring for something on their own instead of being told what to do. Ultimately, you're looking for your horse to have a calm but alert and bright eye, who can be confident in the process of exploring without getting overly excited."
I love the open-sided indoor school; my neighbour has a similar design and it feels so light and airy. After all, the horses won’t be competing inside four walls!
get me this no stirrups eq 😂
I'm assuming her dad is Steve the actor. Very cool of him to have been and still be so close to his daughter and share their interests together. He's about 12 years older than me but my son is about the same age as Ashlee and out relationship is not nearly as close. He is into hot rods but I couldn't get him interested in lead guitar or even the bass. But now, at 38, he's telling me he's ready to learn... lol
is that a Dandie Dinmont terrier or a Glen of Imaal terrier?
Happy to have such a neighbor as Georgina!
Makes me sick to watch
It seems to me this is a huge misinterpretation of the horse by the rider. Horses like this are so often written off as naturally "hot," sensitive, forward, energetic, tempermental, sassy, naughty. In reality, all of the behaviors this mare has are highly correlated in science with stress and often pain. When a horse is chronically stressed like she may be, as upper level horses so often are due to not getting their natural needs met (friends, freedom and forage), they are constantly tense, and hold that tension in different parts of their body. This creates pain and stiffness in the muscles, and bad patterns of moving in their body causes skeletal pain (think joint pain). So now imagine this horse is going through all of this discomfort both mentally and physically, and her rider, who should be her caretaker, writes it off as her being "naughty" and she is just naturally hypersensitive. Pretty sad. We can and need to do better for our horses. Like I have and continue to do, acknowledge my mistakes and adjust to do better for my horse. He deserves nothing less!
Bless you. I don't want to work harder than my horse
Excellent
I learn so much from Tik Maynard. His insight goes right to the core of being a better horse person, no matter the topic. Perfect guest for the last episode of my very favorite podcast, “Equestrian Voices”
Ears should be forward listening to your voice. 😊
What a good interview, covering so many aspects! So much insight. Thank you.
This is so helpful, thank you! Im just leaning to canter!
Thank you so very much for your fantastic videos! I am learning so much from you, I only wish I was there in person to learn from your expertise! Alas, I will learn vicariously through your sensational videos. Thank you, Thank you!! Cheers!🎉
Very excellent advice! Thank you for sharing!
Just discovering your platform and app now. Feeling pulled into this beautiful and helpful world you've curated. Thank you!
Poor horse is WAY overbent!!!
This was great please keep these coming!!
I felt the same way when I wanted to learn more! Thank you for promoting education for everyone!
What a wonderful horseman and stable complex.
Love your clear concise instructions. Thank you so very much…. Can’t wait to tell my trainer my goal is to pick up my horse with my crotch…😂
Why do you ride her so behind the vertical? All horses with a blocked back want to run away.. this is natural.
Who trained you?
No wonder this horse is "hot", she can't see anything going behind the vertical almost all the time. Every time you let go of the reins she relaxes and is not hot/stressed. Why not start their, ride her with lang reins and get her balanced in walk, trott and canter and then engage the hindlegs to get the head up. What you are doing is almost Rollkur and not god horsemanship.
She’s so freaking ANNOYING that I can’t watch anymore!!’ Man she sucks !
I don’t know if the animals are happy there but I DEFINITELY would be happy there ! How absolutely beautiful!!!! ❤️🐴❤️
Why is she behind the vertical at the walk?
Wow, I enjoyed this discussion on grooming. You are an expert
I have been listening to your podcast for the last year, you will be missed! Thank you for everything you did.
I have always looked forward to your podcasts and you will definitely be missed! Thank you for all the diverse topics. Enjoy this time with your family!
Myself and my horses have benefitted so much from your work. You will be so missed! Children grow so fast I applaud you for making more time for them while they are still small. The young days are so hard yet so precious. I do hope you return one day! Thank you!
Some visuals would have been helpful.
